Merry Christmas

Wishing our Family and Friends a Merry Christmas!

The weather may be warmer. The house and decorations are different. The choice of stores is crazy. The amount of things to do is staggering, if not overwhelming. Yet, we five are together and able to celebrate Christmas together and in our own simple way.

Go, Leafs, Go!

Five short days after our fun of watching Tampa vs. Pittsburgh we went to another hockey game. Love 'em or hate 'em,  seeing a Canadian team play was pretty neat even if it was the Leaf's. I have no loyalties to any hockey team other than the one Brandon is presently on. However, I have been known to cheer for the Leaf's on more than one occasion. In Canada we would never be able to take our entire family to see the Leaf's play even in the nose bleed seats. Here in the south, well, tickets aren't so expensive. We took our family of 5 for less than the price of 1 ticket to see them play at the Air Canada Centre!

Learning from our previous experience regarding being at ice level before the game, we made sure we were there. Brandon and Amy left our seats and headed down about 45 mins. early. Brandon secured his spot right in the corner at the lowest part next to the tunnel where the players come out onto the ice. Yup, that is my boy, getting himself right in the spot he wanted, not even moving over for little kids to see players. He stuck to his guns and stayed in his spot the entire practice. He was rewarded by Hi-Fiving every player as they exited the ice! I loved being at ice level for the warm up. It was something to see the players up close and watching their skill.

Warming up for the game. I have no idea who these particular players are. Well I can see who #4 is.

It was pretty exciting to be in the crowd this time. There were so many Canadian's in attendance. Most of the people around us were cheering for Toronto, which didn't impress the Tampa fans next to us. I enjoyed singing O' Canada for the first time in a while.  Again, so many in the audience were singing you could hear them. The previous hockey game the Stars Spangled Banner was sung, but it didn't seem right watching a hockey game without O'Canada.

Phaneuf looks intense!                                                                Players warming up.

During the game our row was chosen for a 'spot' during a commercial break. The Tampa Bay TV Host came to our row with a TV camera & crew. We were given t-shirts promoting the new 'Arthur Christmas' movie coming out. We were featured on the jumbo tron during the 'spot'. The promoter came around and took our picture for his organization. The funny part, the people sitting next to us were so angry because we weren't even Tampa fans. They got angry we were chosen for the spot, trying to block us from the pictures being taken and yelling at the hostess for choosing us.  Keith and I got a good laugh at them. After seeing their anger at us we cheered even more for the Leaf's every time they scored. We had plenty of opportunity to cheer as they won 7-1.

I mentioned to someone down here that we were going to another hockey game. She asked me if that would be my fill for the season. I looked at her, laughed, and I said, 'No, I have a lot more hockey to watch before I have my fill for the season!'

My Birthday Fun

My birthday came around quite fast this year! I knew it would be different because we are away from home and I tell you, this warm weather has thrown my internal clock off. It certainly didn't 'feel' like my birthday with the warmth and humidity, but the day did come. Actually, I like my birthday and my age doesn't bother me. I turned a ripe old age of 41 this year. I think it is more a mind-set than a feeling.

I had a fantastic day, thanks to my family that made it special. Keith was great in getting everything together and done with the kids to make sure it was a good day. One of the family traditions we have is making a special meal for the birthday person. This year we knew we wouldn't be home for supper, so we had a birthday lunch, which was just simple sandwiches with all the fixings. After the meal is when the birthday person opens their gifts. Now this is where it is special, before we open our gifts the person giving the gift says what they appreciate about the birthday person. I always love hearing what my family has to say what they appreciate about me. The kids are usually silly saying they appreciate I have a head, eyes, a mouth, etc, but then they do say something serious. It does make you feel loved and appreciated.

My beautiful bouquet from Keith                                        My birthday loot! Wow!

My birthday cake a Snicker's ice cream cake. Yummy!                             Listening to Amy.

Later in the afternoon we headed to Tampa for the night. I had decided early on when I knew we were going to be down here that I wanted to go see an NHL hockey game. Yes, it is true, I, do love hockey. I blame it on Brandon. I used to hate hockey. We would watch the Leafs every Saturday night and I dreaded watching the games with our friends Tim & Lois. I didn't understand the game and it just drove me crazy to sit and watch the games. Well, when Brandon was 7 he started playing minor hockey. After all those years sitting in arenas I now love the sport of hockey. I love how competitive, how fast, how rough the game can get, the physical contact, and overall how the game is played. I enjoyed every moment of the game!  It was great to be in the arena and hear the noise, watch the players live, and  listening to the crowd (although they are a quiet bunch of hockey fans down here). Going to the game was the highlight of our trip for me. I think Brandon would say the same, too. The only downside to the game was Sydney Crosby didn't play, although it was brilliant on Pittsburgh's part to have him play at home for his first game. I especially liked seeing Jordan Staal play.

Standing outside at the St. Pete Time's Forum           Inside the arena with 'Thunder Bug' the Tampa mascot.
Can you see how excited I am to be there and watch a game?!                Staal warming up.
Getting ready to start! The excitement has been building and it is loud in the arena.            Marc-Andre Fluery.

Check out #11 in blue it is Tom Pyatt from Thunder Bay!

These pictures were taken from the top level. I didn't realize during warm-ups you are allowed at ice level to take pictures. I can guarantee you if we see the Pen's play again, I will be at ice level taking pictures during the warm-ups.

I had a funtastic day, thanks to my family for making it so special and memorable. I think this rates as one of my all time favorite birthdays. The only downside to the day was seeing the Pen's loose. Thank you Keith, Brandon, Amy and Ethan for all making it a great day!

They call it a family thing - Part 2

The last full day mom was here visiting we were supposed to go para-sailing. However, the weather didn't cooperate. It was foggy all day until about 4 pm, when the clouds finally lifted and we had a beautiful evening. Instead we were treated to a fun supper at Bubba Gumps(www.bubbagumps.com). The kids & Keith got these fun frozen drinks in blinking glasses. We ate a lot of different types of food and even dessert. We sat on the patio watching the sun set over the gulf. I was glad we walked to the restaurant because I was so full from supper that if felt good to walk it off. It was about 1 1/2 miles each way. The kids were playing with their glasses on the way home and it looked pretty neat with all the colors flashing through the air as they threw them in the night sky or tried juggling.

The last day we all woke up early to enjoy the quiet of the beach - although, down here people are on the beach walking early. The day was drizzly and foggy. One of the neat things was the dolphins swimming so close to shore and playing. I don't think I'll get tired of seeing dolphins.

Watching the dolphins in the fog.

They call it a family thing - Part 1

Earlier this month we had the pleasure of having some family come to visit. It was great to spend time with each other and to be at, yes, the beach. My mom rented a condo on the beach for a week. My brother and sister in law came down from Georgia, unfortunately my brother, Matt and his family were unable to make it. I missed having them down here with the rest of us.

We walked the beach looking for shells, watching the dolphins in the morning, playing cards and scrabble, laughing and just having a good time being with each other. My mom cooked many wonderful dinners for us. She spoiled the boys with all her good food. My boys in particular liked the mussels and linguine. This isn't something I'm likely to cook on a regular basis or even an irregular basis.

The girls at sunset.

Gram's with her boys.

Ethan & Grams going for a walk on the beach. Brett & Morgan enjoying some beach time.

Ethan & Amy relaxing in our sun shelters.

Uncle Brett & Ethan playing scrabble.                      Amy & Auntie Morgan having quality time on the beach.

Auntie Morgan & Brandon.                    Keith & Amy playing in the water.

We are looking forward to seeing Uncle Brett & Auntie Morgan at the end of January. We already have a serious card game lined up for our time together. We appreciated mom for allowing us all to have this time together. It was a special time to have family come down to visit us. I think being in a hot place with a beach is much easier to visit than the snow of O' Canada.

I leave you a perfect sunset!

Around Town

This post is a little different. I don't post even a 1/4 of the pictures I have been taking, so I thought it would be fun to show all of you Around Town.

Brandon, Me & Amy

We spend 90% of our time at the beach. It has become a place to relax and have fun. I think my favorite part of the being at the beach beside feeling the suns warmth, would be seeing dolphins swim so close to shore. Amy and Keith were close enough to reach out and touch two dolphins as they swam by. We are blessed to have this time and opportunity
