Pictures of the Day ~ April 20, 2012

Here are my top pictures in no particular order. I couldn't stick to just five so you get seven. They all captured me for one reason or another. Enjoy and I'll be back with more pictures.

Picture of the Day ~ April 19, 2012

I have made it! Thirty-one days of pictures. I have had fun and realized how much I have enjoyed taking the pictures and than posting them. I am not sure what I'll do now that the month is over. I have been thinking of a few different ways to keep this up, but I'm not sure if I want to do a month of pictures as it gets closer to summer and a busier schedule for me. When I know I'll let you all know my plans. Tomorrow I am planning on doing a post on my top 5 pictures from the month. Let me know what your favorite picture was. I would love the feedback.

This was a few summers back when we had finished playing in the 'Wilson Cup' tournament.

This is one of my favorites of the kids!

Picture of the Day ~ April 18, 2012

Today, I decided to use my favorite person for the picture of the day. This was taken on Keith's 40th birthday. It was early in the morning just before we went fishing. We had a fantastic time out on the Gulf in the morning and being together. Great memories for the five of us.

Picture of the Day ~ April 17, 2012

Yesterday, we had a snow/ice storm. I am hoping that is the last of the season. It seems to be taking a long time for things to grow and get green up here and having a storm feels like a set back. I have lived in the north for 18 + years and I still miss a true spring with leaves, flowering trees, tulips, crocus', and daffodils oh, and green grass before May. It will all come, but not until mid to late May to early June when the trees will have popped, flowers bloomed. The grass will be green before I know it, maybe even next week. On the bright side the storm brought a bunch of migrating song birds to our feeders and it is nice to hear them 'singing'.

Picture of the Day ~ April 16, 2012

Last weekend we had the pleasure of celebrating Keith's Nana's 89th Birthday with the family. It was good to see the family after not seeing them since last September (minus a few who we will be seeing at the beginning of May). I wasn't sitting directly in front of Nana, but I still like this picture of her smiling as we sang, 'Happy Birthday' to her. I like the next picture because it shows her trying to blow out the one last candle! It was a pesky candle.

Picture of the Day ~ April 14, 2012

When I think of the north shore of Lake Superior these images come to mind. Smooth and rugged rocks, rushing water and the tranquil color of the lake. I could probably spot a picture of the north shore just at a glance because the character is unique. Living on the shores of the largest fresh lake in the world makes you feel rather small when you see the expanse of the water. It is never ending.

Picture of the Day ~ April 13, 2012

Keith takes the credit for this picture. He had fun using the camera today taking interesting pics of rocks and Lake Superior. I'll have to post more of his work.

Picture of the Day ~ April 13, 2012

Life got in the way of a post yesterday! I'm going to try and get another picture in for today, but much later in the day. I'm dreaming of a little color in my life. Aren't these purple berries delicious looking? I have no idea if you can eat them, but they sure were a treat to see in the wild and how they popped next to the green.

Picture of the Day ~ April 11, 2012

Here's a creature you don't see everyday where I live. I don't find these critters particularly cute and cuddly, but they are interesting to watch.

Picture of the Day ~ April 10, 2012

The bay is completely open now with few, if any, ice chunks on the water. I'm glad I took the time last week to get out and take these pictures of the 'icebergs'. I love how the ice is reflecting off the water.

Picture of the Day ~ April 9, 2012

This past weekend we gave a digital picture frame as a gift for a family member. When uploading pictures we found 'forgotten pictures' from years past. Last spring Keith and I were able to get away to Mackinac Island to the Grand Hotel for a marriage seminar. We took this picture on the way over to the island on the ferry.

Picture of the Day ~ April 7, 2012

Today's picture capture's one of my favorite places here at DBC. To some this may look like a mess and not all that pretty, however to me it represents my home and one of the reason's I love the piece of property we are living on. Also, I know that the brown will be giving way to a beautiful green soon, that has a way of 'glowing' in the evenings as the sun is setting in the summer time. This represents hope for new life to begin. Old giving way to new and a fresh start. I think this is fitting for Easter, as we celebrate the hope for a new life in Christ. Have a wonderful holiday however you are celebrating.

Picture of the Day ~ April 5, 2012

I went for a walk down to the waterfront this evening. I was taking a lot of pictures of the ice chunks floating in the open bay, however this creature caught my eye on the way home. He won out in the picture of the day blog. It was rather tricky to get this picture because I had my dog, Winston with me on a leash, and the camera in the other hand. I had to keep Winston distracted while not scaring off the rabbit, trying to get as close as I could. I somehow managed to get the rabbit for a number of shots. The picture didn't turn out as tack sharp as I would have liked, but still pretty neat to get this close to the molting rabbit. It is changing like our season is changing.

Picture of the Day ~ April 4, 2012

Today's picture's are from our time in Florida. I could probably do over a year or two worth of pictures from our time down there. I love how the setting sun is reflecting on Amy.

Kite Festival

Many of you may recall Keith and Ethan's interest in kites. They both like to fly, like stunt kites, and like to watch and learn new tricks. Back in January the town of Treasure Island (sounds wonderful to live in this place) had its annual kite festival. This festival is relatively small, from what I understand, but it still attracts people from all over the country to come down to compete over the weekend. Besides the competitive side of the festival there are events for kids to participate in, demonstrations for tricks, and learning new skills and a whole lot of kites flying in the air. The amount of colour in the air was rich. Personally, I loved seeing how the kites popped next to sky and the interesting designs. Kites are quite different from what I had experienced as a kid!

The row of kites waving in the air and an alien or octopus floating in the sky

I found this one funny sitting on the ground waiting to be fed. That's what I imagined in my head.

Ethan and Keith participating on the beach with their kites.

On the Sunday we went as a family. The day was bright and sunny and a bit warmer than the previous day. Also, there were a bunch of new kites to feast our eyes on and watch. I found a fascinating funnel kite. I tried and tried to get the perfect picture of it, but it didn't work, but I managed to get a decent shot. Ethan once again took to the air with his kite, but he had to watch all the people or else he could have injured someone with his kite driving hard into their head. Eventually, he had to put it away as more and more people were coming to our area of the beach getting ready for a five stacked kite competition. These would be the Revolution Kites. Keith has been eyeing these kites for some time and thinking it might be his next kite purchase. He'll have to save for a while as these are very expensive kites. These kites require almost no wind to fly. I don't understand how that works, but they are neat to watch.

I seem to have caught some kind of awful cold and have been unable to get out and take pictures. This picture is from a kite festival Keith, Ethan and I went to in Florida. The festival was a feast for the eyes with many colorful kites.

Picture of the Day ~ April 2, 2012

Last week when we headed down to Grand Marais we ventured to the lighthouse. The lighthouse is on the breakwater, but beside the breakwater are these neat flat rocks that you can run and jump on. The rocks go right out into Lake Superior. Our boys love to go on them and get as close to water with out getting wet. It is always a fun time for us when we go.

Picture of the Day ~ March 31, 2011

I was doing my timeline for fb and remembered I had this picture and used it for my cover picture. Since the weather hasn't been all that great for a while now I have been longing for the warmth of Florida. I love the way the splash is captured in this picture. I was just fooling around with taking pictures one morning on the beach.

Picture of the Day ~ March 30, 2012

Waking up to snow this morning made me miss Florida. This was our favorite beach while down there and we spent many hours here enjoying the sun, surf and sand. Doesn't this make you want to escape the north and get down there as fast as you can? This is exactly what I would like to do.

Picture of the Day ~ March 29, 2012

While my mom was here she cooked her special linguine and mussels for our family. Last November in Florida she made the same dish. The guys in the house were excited to be having this meal once again. Amy on the other hand wasn't as happy, but she did eat some with out complaint. Brandon enjoys cooking and learning how to cook different food.  He asked my mom to teach him how to cook this particular dinner. The two of them worked together in the kitchen. Brandon did a great job making the meal, he had a great teacher.

The mussels. The smelled delicious and tasted wonderful. Don't they look great?

The finished product. This was my rice pasta dish.

Picture of the Day ~ March 28, 2012

Sorry about not posting yesterday. Our internet was out all night due a storm we were having. This past week we had the pleasure of having my mom come and visit. We took her down one of our favorite places in Minnesota. Unfortunately, the weather was cold, windy and cloudy and my mom wasn't able to see the beautiful drive along Lake Superior. We had fun visiting the different stores, sampling the coffee and we had lunch, than drove home. We were all tired from our day out!

The whole gang with Brandon being silly!

Picture of the Day ~ March 26, 2012

Like most people, I have enjoy watching a river snake along it's path in all season's.  Spring break up brings out a different type of beauty as the river starts to flow freely breaking free from winter's hold. This river close to my home is no exception.

Picture of the Day ~ March 24, 2012

The two pictures for today are from the red tack shed. I am not sure as to why, but the window captured my eye from the outside and the inside. I think it is the way the horse ropes are hanging in the window that I found fascinating. It could be the weathered look of the paint or even the dirt on the windows.

I made it in the picture!

When I was inside the tack shed, I found the light coming in through the window interesting. I also loved the dark look of these worn horse ropes and to top it off, the way the back ground is slightly blurred made it the picture of the day for me.

See you on Monday and have a great Sunday.

Picture of the Day ~ March 23, 2012

It has been raining A. LOT. today. Keith was walking home from work when he passed some pine trees. He noticed the needles where covered in raindrops. He suggested I go out and take some picture of the raindrops on the edge of the needles. It made for some interesting picture taking and as usual a learning curve with trying to focus on drops of water.
