Kite Festival

Many of you may recall Keith and Ethan's interest in kites. They both like to fly, like stunt kites, and like to watch and learn new tricks. Back in January the town of Treasure Island (sounds wonderful to live in this place) had its annual kite festival. This festival is relatively small, from what I understand, but it still attracts people from all over the country to come down to compete over the weekend. Besides the competitive side of the festival there are events for kids to participate in, demonstrations for tricks, and learning new skills and a whole lot of kites flying in the air. The amount of colour in the air was rich. Personally, I loved seeing how the kites popped next to sky and the interesting designs. Kites are quite different from what I had experienced as a kid!

I found this one funny sitting on the ground waiting to be fed. That's what I imagined in my head.

On the Sunday we went as a family. The day was bright and sunny and a bit warmer than the previous day. Also, there were a bunch of new kites to feast our eyes on and watch. I found a fascinating funnel kite. I tried and tried to get the perfect picture of it, but it didn't work, but I managed to get a decent shot. Ethan once again took to the air with his kite, but he had to watch all the people or else he could have injured someone with his kite driving hard into their head. Eventually, he had to put it away as more and more people were coming to our area of the beach getting ready for a five stacked kite competition. These would be the Revolution Kites. Keith has been eyeing these kites for some time and thinking it might be his next kite purchase. He'll have to save for a while as these are very expensive kites. These kites require almost no wind to fly. I don't understand how that works, but they are neat to watch.
